Last summer, as my belly grew and grew, our trips to the park consisted of more than just a blanket on the grass, a chai in hand, a book to read and people to watch. We talked about the baby we were going to have when the summer was over, if it was a boy or girl, what we would name it, what would he/she look like? etc.. We also talked about the months after our baby was born. Things we would get to do as a family of three and one thing I was so excited about was that next summer we would be coming to the park with our baby! As we sat I would watch other families with small children and imagine what it would be like when our baby was about seven or eight months and we could come to the park and play together on a blanket. Those were the dreams of last summer..
Today those dreams became reality! Of course, we have been to the park with Charles prior to today, but something about this afternoon was different. Perhaps because before today's trip our times at the park were mostly walking around pushing the stroller and stopping at benches and today was the first time we spread out a blanket and sat together like usual. The weather was perfect, there were a lot of people in the park and every baseball field had a little league game being played. We stopped at Connecticut Muffin to get a drink and a slice of red velvet cake (for me, Chris had a ginger cookie) and took it to our usual spot on in the grass off the path near the baseball diamonds. We spread out our blanket, took our shoes off and sat with our sweet Charles.
It was lovely.
